Pantry Essentials

From the start I must state that this blog isn't sponsored by anyone, so all of these recommendations are just my opinion and from my experience. This also a list in progress - I will continue to add and update as I build the blog.

Store cupboard ingredients

Marigold Swiss Vegetable Bouillon Powder - brilliant for soups, stews and even boiling or steamingvegan, gluten-free version is also available, as well.
vegetables in this is syn-free but full of flavour and often replaces any need for using salt. An essential for any vegetarian's store cupboard - a

Meridian Light Tahini Paste - great for including in houmous and to add a sharp, savoury edge to dishes. Be careful - it is 1.5 syns per tsp but you only need a small amount anyway as the taste is rather dominating.

Sizzola Spray oil - I recommend using an oil available in a spray (one that is very few calories per spray). I tried FryLight and, like many people, I found this damaged many of my pans and smelled a little 'chemically' for me. You need to count your sprays to try and stay under 20 cals per time if possible.

Tinned Beans and Pulses

Beans and pulses are a key part of the protein element of the plan for vegetarians. Sourcing good quality, convenient sources of these foods is vital to ensure you are able to make the dishes you will need to keep your diet varied, satisfying and enjoyable throughout SP days.

Red lentils - these are your best friends for easy to cook, filling, protein-packed dishes and they appear a lot in what I cook. If you've space I'd recommend investing in a big 'armageddon / survivalist shelter' style sack like this one and then decant them into more useable jars or tubs for everyday. This will save money in the long-run and mean you've always got something in the cupboard that could make an SP-friendly filling dish like my lentil dahl within 30 mins.

East End Chickpeas, Butter Beans, Black-Eyed Beans, Red Kidney Beans, White Kidney (Cannellini) Beans, Kala Chana and Spinach Puree are all wonderful - link here. Many of their products come in salted water, so drain and rinse them carefully and potentially reduce any salt you may normally add into your food.
